"There is no need to get sentimental."

Well, it was time to turn all American again. On Sunday I had a noon flight from Heathrow to Dulles. I held onto London until the end by reading the Daily Mail and listening to Adele’s Royal Albert Hall concert during the flight. I saw so much in a week, yet it still wasn’t long enough. I think one could return to London again and again and still never touch on everything it has to offer. For a week, though, I was an honorary local—I rode the Tube at rush hour, I was asked by a Boots clerk if I had a discount card, and I ate lunch amongst office workers in a cafeteria under a Methodist church. I’ve had a dose of London that will get me through until I can once again set foot on Shakespeare's "precious stone set in the silver sea."
I think it is an Irish poet, Thomas Moore, who sums it up best: “Go where we may, rest where we will, Eternal London haunts us still.” So true.
Cheers & Safe Travels!
